My friend Clare was over from Ireland this weekend so I decided not to do the second day of the Pilgrim Challenge, but instead did a 7.3 mile recovery run from Ladywell to East Croydon. I managed to shuffle my way along, although certainly this wasn’t a fast time.
Clare has been instrumental, together with her friends, neighbours and the Irish Girl Guides, in helping me with my fundraising and I am really grateful for her commitment and drive to help me reach my fundraising target. Certainly, without Clare I would have struggled with taking on all the fundraising myself on top of the hours training I’m fitting in. I’ve called Clare my guardian angel for that’s truly what she’s been in all of this.
We dropped into Cafe Nero for a coffee and ever-so yummy chocolate cheesecake (all this exercise does have calorific benefits) and caught up on the fundraising pub quiz Clare is organising for me in Dublin for 11 March. I will be joining her to say thank you to everyone in Dublin that’s helped me. I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone.
Unfortunately the time went too quickly and Clare had to leave. No run back to Ladywell. Something far less glamourous – the weekly food shop. Well, even ultrarunners need to eat!
